The Original Chrysler Six Returns to the New York Auto Show

As the 2025 New York International Auto Show celebrates its 125th anniversary, it’s also playing host to a once-in-a-lifetime reunion. This year, the only surviving original Chrysler Six prototype—the car that launched the Chrysler brand in 1924—will return to the very show floor where it made its world debut exactly a century ago.

This legendary vehicle will be showcased as part of Chrysler’s official kickoff to its 100-year anniversary celebration, right where it all began.

A Car That Changed Everything

More than just a beautiful antique, the Chrysler Six was a game-changer. When it rolled onto the scene in 1924, it stunned the automotive world with standard four-wheel hydraulic brakes—a first for the industry. Beneath the hood, a high-compression six-cylinder engine delivered impressive performance, while its sleek, low-slung design redefined what a modern automobile could look like.

“This is more than just a car—it’s a symbol of innovation, ambition, and the pioneering spirit that shaped the modern automobile industry,” said Mark Schienberg, President of the New York Auto Show. “To have the original Chrysler Six—the very car that stunned audiences at the 1924 Show—return exactly 100 years later is an extraordinary tribute to the enduring impact of automotive innovation.”

The Last of Its Kind

Built in secrecy by Chrysler’s legendary “Three Musketeers”—Fred Zeder, Owen Skelton, and Carl Breer—the Chrysler Six was a bold vision of what a car bearing Walter P. Chrysler’s name could be. Of the four prototypes originally crafted while Chrysler was still with the Maxwell Motor Car Company, only this one remains.

Now, this incredible piece of automotive history is making a triumphant return, offering a rare and unforgettable glimpse into the roots of one of America’s most iconic carmakers.

See It for Yourself

Whether you’re a lifelong car enthusiast or simply someone who appreciates timeless design and innovation, this is your chance to witness history up close. The Chrysler Six prototype will be on display throughout the show’s run at the Jacob K. Javits Center, April 18–27, 2025. (Press Days: April 16 & 17)
