Camp Jeep Turns the New York Auto Show Into a Family Off-Road Thrill Ride

Camp Jeep Turns the New York Auto Show Into a Family Off-Road Thrill Ride

Climb a 28-foot mountain in a Jeep and take on extreme obstacles, all included with your New York Auto Show ticket.

Get ready to climb.

When the New York International Auto Show returns to the Javits Center April 3–12, 2026, Camp Jeep® will once again transform part of the show floor into a full-scale off-road adventure built for the whole family.

Parents, kids, and friends can pile into a Jeep together and take on a course that feels more like a theme-park attraction than a typical convention-center exhibit.
It’s one part thrill ride, one part hands-on technology experience — and entirely unforgettable.

Professional drivers guide guests through steep climbs, dramatic tilts, and carefully engineered obstacles, explaining how advanced 4×4 systems, traction management, and safety technologies keep the vehicle stable at every angle.

The Jeep Mountain: Big Views, Bigger Smiles

At the center of Camp Jeep stands the iconic Jeep Mountain, a 28-foot-tall, 42-degree hill climb that is the tallest and steepest indoor hill at any auto show.

From the passenger seat, the climb feels dramatic. Families ride together as the vehicle powers upward, crests the peak and descends smoothly back down, demonstrating how traction and torque distribution work to maintain control, even when the angle looks almost impossible.

Obstacles Bring Capability and Tech to Life

Camp Jeep is designed to showcase what Jeep vehicles can do when the pavement ends, while helping guests understand the technology that supports the experience. The course features a series of purpose-built challenges:

  • Ground Clearance Stair Climb: Demonstrates traction and clearance as Jeeps ascend a five-foot staircase.
  • Extreme Breakover: A thrilling 25-degree uneven plane where one wheel loses contact with the surface, letting riders feel the vehicle balance and “break over” the apex.
  • Off-Camber Bridge: A 70-foot-long, 12-foot-tall obstacle showcasing extreme three-wheeling and side-to-side articulation.
  • Articulation Wedge: A 30-degree curved wedge that highlights body articulation across steep inclines and declines.
  • Crevasse: A narrow passage where all four tires suspend a Jeep between a pair of 45-degree walls, highlighting maneuverability and control.

As guests move through each feature, professional drivers share what’s happening in the vehicle and why it matters: how grip is managed, how suspension travel keeps tires planted, and how modern engineering supports confident handling on uneven terrain.

Ride Along in Jeep’s Most Capable Lineup

Off-road test rides will be available in:

  • Jeep Wrangler Rubicon
  • Jeep Wrangler 392
  • Jeep Gladiator Rubicon
  • Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk

Built in Front of the Javits Center

Camp Jeep is a massive build that turns the Auto Show into an off-road environment. Course construction includes:

  • 20,000-square-foot exhibit
  • 280,000 lbs. of freight (17 truckloads)
  • 5 cubic yards of dirt
  • 5 cubic yards of hardwood mulch
  • 5 tons of boulders
  • Six pine trees, ranging from 8–16 feet tall

The result is an immersive setting that looks and feels like the start of a real trail ride, right in the heart of Manhattan.
